Your emotional health and mental health have a big effect on your physical health. When you’re feeling stressed, you may experience high blood pressure, weight gain, and – in pregnancy, even early delivery of your baby (preterm birth).
If you spend a little bit of time now, figuring out what helps you reduce the stress in your life will pay off later, especially during pregnancy. Stress is hard on your physical health. It can cause high blood pressure, weight gain, and (if pregnant) having a premature baby.
Here are some tips to help lower your stress, stay balanced, and improve your overall health.
Don’t ignore the issue
Take on what’s bothering you directly by trying to work through the issue, resolve it, and move on. Sometimes, doing it by yourself or having friends and family try to help is not enough.

What if it’s more than just stress
Sometimes normal stress crosses the line into depression and anxiety. These are real medical problems that can affect anyone.
